can anyone help? when i shut off my 98 expy, the lights on the running boards and interior will not go out. i have to restart and take for a cruise around the block and try again. usually works second time.
also, sometimes the interior lights and door ajar light stay on while driving and auto door locks fail to engage. lights will eventually go out, but door ajar does not and doors do not lock...again...not all the time
You need a can of WD 40, a small brush, and a rag... One of the door close switches are dirty. You will not find them in the jam. Look for them in the latch.
Spary the latches one at a time to find the one that is doing it.
The other thing that will not work is the back wiper. The grounding of the latch switch parks the wiper.
Also check your cargo net if you have one. The other day mine was stuck between the door and the tailgate and the lights were staying on. It was making me crazy, I did the walk around and checked all the doors twice and forgot to do the tailgate. The second time I checked the tailgate and voila there was my net jammed between the two. Moved it and it solved my lighting issue.
My '98 has done this every time it rains or when I wash it. It is only the drivers door. Sometimes the power lock on that door does not work either. It just hums. I am going to take the door panel off and clean the terminals to the door lock. I believe all the systems run through that wiring. Hopefully it does. I wish I would have bought all the manuals like I had for my '85 Bronco.
MitchPeters - There a person on Ebay that sell the ford manuals on CD. I got one for about $20. Its great! wiring diags and troubleshooting and part numbers for special tools you need, not to metion break downs and DTC root cause flow charts.
