Swapable?

I have a 69 F100 Ranger long bed, straight and reasonably solid, all blown apart for restoration. I'm a large scale model railroader, so I was going to build it up as a tow rig. My eldest son recently gifted me with a 79 F250, with all the goodies, including a 460. It runs well and drives okay (some brake issues).

My question is: Can these two be blended? Will the 69 body mate to the 79 chassis with a reasonable amount of hassle?

Thanks,
Greg B.

I'm really trying to think this through, before commiting to a course of action. I dislike the eight lug, 16.5" wheels. I also was more intrigued by the convenience than the desireability of a 3/4 ton truck.

I know that the 460 / C6 combo will transfer to the F100. Will five lug rotors and hubs mount on the F250 spindles. I would really like the disc brakes and will swap the I-beams if I can make it work. Just about everything else I've looked at is pretty straight foreward.

Thanks,
Greg B.

Cab/front clip is a 6 hole bolt up exchange. You will have to do some fudging on the bed end because in 73 Ford added 4" to the back of the cab, beyond the rear cab holes.

You will need to weld some plates onto the chassis to keep the bed bolt holes, but it can be done.

I would pull the cab/front clip together so you avoid all of the realignment. Lift it straight up and roll the chassis out and back under.

Consider keeping the heavy duty axles, and just get wheels that are more your style.

jowilker,
Thanks for the pointers, but I have, almost, convinced myself to move the pertanent 79 parts to the 69 chassis. The clip and cab suggestion is a good one, but the 69 is already blown apart and will go back together one restored, refurbished or replaced part at a time.

Victor L.,
There is a fresh rebuilt 9" under the chassis, right now. It will handle anything tat a slightly warmed 460 has to offer. So, that Dana, from the 79, will go down the road. What I really want is to use the front end parts, from the 79, and put five lug rotors on them. That way I get matching 15" wheels all 'round.

lucky strike,
Sorry, man, I just can't let go of anything at this stage of the game. I have parts from two better than average donor trucks. The best are going directly into the build and the rest will probably become the parts department. I don't know where you're from, but the lower 1/3 of Alabama is a great hunting ground. I got my "builder" for an hour of roto-tilling and drove it home!

THanks for the responses,
Greg B.

Greg, It's your call, my 66 has been upgraded under the chassis and I tried to do it in a manner that I can order 76 100 parts for everything.

My forgetter works very hard and if I sell the truck I can pass that info along to the next owner.

Mixing the 250 parts will increase your work load, don't know that the results will be any different.
