New guy needs help !

I have a '77 F 100 with a stock Motorcraft 2bbl. The problem is that she is spitting back through the carb and running bad at times. The timming has been checked and is spot on, I've installed new Motorcraft plugs, new plug wires, new cap and button and nothing has helped so far. Should I pull the carb and rebuild it or is there something else ?

spitting thru carb

Sounds like time to rebuild the carb, and eliminate that possibility. Pay close attention to the float's condition and setting, replace the needle and seat since you have it torn down that far, and give the accelerator pump mechanisms a good inspection sometimes they can be sloppy. Another common issue will be the accelerator pump reservoir check valve will have a perforation in it. these should also be replaced since you have it torn down remember to use lube on the new one. Welcome & Hope this helps !!

Thank Brutal Bronco, I appreciate the input and will get right on that rebuild. I'll keep everyone posted on the results. It's nice to belong to a family like this.

Could also be a stretched (worn out) timing chain. With the distributor cap off how many degrees can you move the crank back and forth without the rotor moving?
