370 LIMA

I know where a ford dump truck with a Ford 370 Lima is, and its a 5 spd with 2 spd rear end. And wanted to know if I could use the transmission on a 360. And are the 370 limas a good engine? Cause I may get the truck so I have a engine and tranny for a project truck I may have coming up after my 75 High Boy.

if it has an SAE bellhousing trans you could IF you found the adaptor.
if it bolts directly to the engine then not a chance.
370 is as good as 429, 460. just smaller.

The only thing that limits them is the parts that limit the 429 truck engine.
heavy rotating assembly. And the 2bbl.....

but they have a great selection of aft market parts to choose from thanks to its bigger brothers.

if your looking to buy the truck for the engine, pass it by it's not a good choice at all. heavy engine with a short stroke and a small bore (same stroke as a 429 but a lot smaller bore) with very few exceptions you can't bore them to the standard 4.360 429 bore and you can't put a passenger car harmonic dampener on them without having the crank turned down and re-keyed. Also unlike the 429 lima they don't have a forged steel crank so it's not worth the cost to do. The heads also have smaller valves so to get performance out of them you will need to replace the heads too.

So basically when all said and done you have a set of rods you could use.... but why?

As to the question of bolting a 360 in place NO you need a new bellhousing, new flywheel and figure out motor mounts.

So the bellhousing will come off? I mainly just want the tranny. ALso the tranny would be going in a pick up truck. I just wondered i the engine was a good engine.

The 5er in that truck--do you know what it is? It probably has a longer, larger input shaft that will not match the depth of the 360 bell, and may cause an issue with the pilot bushing and clutch disk. You might end up having to get FT engine parts to make it work. More money.

Plus, you may not have enough room in the cab for the shift throws, and it may be worn to the point where it needs a rebuild.

You are buying an awfully large package for a couple of questionable parts it seems.... Put another way, is this a working, running, drivable truck? If so, it should be worth more than the cost of a transmission. If it isn't running, my guess is the trans is as worn out as anything, as they work all the time, either for driving, braking or running the pto for the pump for the hydraulic system.

Well the reason I want it is so the engine and tranny would go into a pick up truck and I know there will be enough room for the throws, it has the same amount of throw as the tranny thats all ready in the truck.

Your OP asks if you can use the trans behind a 360.

So, you want to transplant the entire engine and trans into a PU? Right?

Does it run? Shift? Stay in gear under load, coast, and decell?

Is this a running truck or on it's way to the scrappy for non-powertrain issues?

If it runs/shifts ok, and that's what you want, at least you have all the parts you'll need, especially accessory drives, clutch etc.

You will have to do some DS work to marry up that trans to your driveline.
