You should post a bit further down in the Misc section on "Clutch, Transmission, Differential, Axle & Transfer Case".

There is not a lot you can do except change the fluid and filter and hope for the best. Most bands never need adjustment over their full life span. If you are having 'slow forward engagement' type problems, you likely need an overhaul as your clutches are probably toast. If it is missing OD engagement, again, it will need work. If it is late or soft / hard shifting, you can look at the vacuum modulator if you have one, or check the throttle pressure adjustment up at the throttle linkage.
Most times, the fluid has been left too long without service, and smells burned and is very dark, rather than a 'cherry coke' color. The clutches and steels then spin and get VERY hot very quickly, leading to more slippage.

thank you TOMW

First thing is to thank for your reply, I change the filter and fluid, it smelled fine just real dark, normal film dust in pan. No shavings of any kind. It seemed to be doing better, but later in the day my wife said it just slipped a little going into third. I will drive it myself today and let everyone know. I thank you again for your time, Steven

Make sure the Fluid level is correct. It should be between the holes when cold. It should be in the hatched area when at operating temperature. This is covered in the Owner's Manual.
