Hellwig Installed

I installed my hellwig yesterday and the posts about the directions sent with the kit are spot on. An exploded view would have been nice to see where the install points and variety of washers were to be placed. There are two items that I have not seen in the posts that I thought I would add.

First, and this may be common sense, but was not in the directions - is to take off the bottom shock bolts before you start work. I left the shock installed on the mounting bracket on the first side and it makes for difficulties when reinstalling the U-Bolts.

Second is the frame mount. There are two holes in the frame that can be used. The bolts that came with the kit do not go through the hole that the E brake clip is currently bolted to. I used the hole that is higher on the frame and towards the back of the truck instead. It actually helped with getting a level bar and was very easy to bolt up. You have to move the bracket on the e brake to make it work, but it is pretty simple.

Other that those things, the kit installed quick and makes a big difference. The back end is feeling a lot more solid and I can't wait to pull my TT to see the difference.

Does make a world of difference towing. Can't remember but my U-bolts were either spread too far or too narrow, and had to take it to the shop to get then adjusted for the holes. got mine from JC Whitney...

After getting my a$$ chewed by 6686 last season for removing my hellwig i decided to give mine another go. i already had the end links still in place so it only took me about an hour to reinstall. it looks like it fits much better this time, i'm not sure where i went wrong before.

i didn't follow the instructions this time, but it seems like i remember reading about moving the ebrake bracket the first time.
