Brake Issues

A couple of months ago, I rebuilt the rear brakes on my 93. I replaced the shoes, springs, retainers, cylinders, and all of the other hardware (on both sides). One of the two cylinders I purchased leaked terribly (new) and it was too late in the evening to get a new one so I had to wait until the next day. The next morning, it had leaked so much that the reservoir was nearly empty. The Haynes manual says never to let this happen, or air will get into the main hydraulic solenoid and will have to be bleed at a dealership. Well it worked great for a few days, and then the pedal started getting squishy. I bleed each of the rear cylinders again, and it worked great again for a few days, but now is to being squishy. Do you think that main hydraulic solenoid thing got air in it, or is it something else?<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

If the fluid level got low enough to drain the anti-lock valve body, it stands to reason the master cylinder fluid level was also compromised. Have both the master cylinder and the anti-lock valve body been bled?

No, I only bleed at each rear wheel so far. The Haynes manual insinuates that the ABS valve cannot be serviced at home. Are we talking about the hydraulic distribution block that is located near the steering shaft on the driverside? I am also unsure of how to bleed the booster. Thanks for the response Grey
