I recently purchased a 78 f-150 4x4 with a 400 as a new project and backup vehicle, it seems to be mostly stock, but i must admit that I dont know much about trucks in this era. I have a 68 mustang that has been my project and daily driver, but it is a little less complex then the truck. Under the hood on my drivers side wheel well there is what looks like some sort of module or transformer. It is about 3"x5" with 4 electrical posts sticking out of the top, and has cooling fins. It says BMC on the side and has the numbers 5128 on top of it. I've searched the internet and this forum for it, but i have no idea what it is I'm really looking for and have had no luck so far. It is held into place with nutplates that are part of the fender, which leads me to believe it is stock, but it isn't connected to anything. Does anyone have any idea to what it is? Thanks
Well im pretty sure it must be a dual battery isolator or something like that, because i chased some wires that were cut off and capped near the box back to a plug under the rear bumper. A previous owner may have had a winch or something set up on it. The box is also mounted about 2 feet farther forward from where my current ignition box plugs in to the main wire harness. I think i have a duraspark 2 ignition (not exactly sure). It's a box about the same size with 2 connectors coming out of it. If you open up my distributor I have a magnetic pickup and reluctor.
