Exclamation NEED HELP!!!

Hey guys, I know this is not a 7.3 engine but I trust you so here goes. At work here we have a t6000 truck with a diesel engine it. When you are traveling down the road sometimes it just steadily loses power till it dies. But then it will start right up again and nothing. so for example, driving at 75 then it goes to 65, 55,45,35,25 etc until it dies. It does not do it all the time. We have been told it might be crap in the fuel tank that eventually gets sucked up into the feeder tube robbing it of fuel. Any Ideas?

That sounds plausible.

Loss of power in a diesel is a good chance its loss of fuel.

MO INFO = MO INFO

Answer Waljon's Q and I bet you get more help.

Does it have a tach?
Does the engine rpms increase with the stall?
Do you apply more throttle during the stall and it slows the stall or does nothing.

Truck is a ford. 1990. Not sure on engine. Two gas tanks. The problem only happens after it has warmed up and ran hard for awhile. It never shuts all the way off, just loses power. If you shut it off, then start it up again it runs fine again.

Have you guys tried changing the fuel filters? also do you mean L6000?

water in the fuel filter would be my guess depending on motor there will be more than one filter

I have to go along with fuel issue. Probably water in fuel. Does the engine run hotter when the slowing happens? Not sure if a diesel engine will experience 'vapor-lock' like the carbed gassers, but, again, that would be an indication of water in the fuel. This would have to happen after the fuel bowl/filter just before entering the injectors.

Are the fuel filters clogging up with algae? Are the fuel tank bottoms near the fuel pickup lines clean? Maybe debris is clogging the opening of the pickup line with the engine running. Shutting off the engine eliminates the vacuum holding the debris against the pickup opening, unclogging the line. No blockage allows the fuel to flow normally until the debris is picked up again.

When this happens again and you start slowing down, try switching to the other tank to see if you can regain speed. If you can, I'd say something is blocking the line opening in that tank.
