We also have no lettering or arrows on our hubs and we have a 2000 Ford Excursion.
i had this problem before, you can turn the **** it "says" you are in 4X4 and you can even here the transfercase drive motor "engaging" and still only the rear wheels turn. well i found that between the HUB and engage system there is horseshoe looing gear that when engaged it couples the drive section to the HUB so you get the front wheels to drive also, in mine, that "horseshoe" looking gear had sheared off. sounds hard but its actually a relatively easy fix. that could be something to look into.

I am haveing a problem similar to that, my truck has warn lockers I can get out lock the hubs back up to ensure they are locked and spin the switch to engage the four wheel, the light comes on, also comes on for four low if i try that to but nothing, the wheels dont spin. hubs locked, light is on and except for four low everything is the same. only time anything changes is four low and that is strictly the shift pattern that is held in a low gear. the front wheels still wont spin in the snow. what the heck, could it be that little horse shoe gear thing. and how do i change it? any input would be great thanks

Just because the light on the dash is coming on does not mean your transfer case is engaged. Standing still with the truck idling turn the switch and listed out the door. You should be able to hear the t-case engaging.
