Couple of questions for you guys.

1. If the edge Insight already reads EGT, why buy additional probe and spend $80?

2. If the block heater is working will you see the temp gauge on dash read the temp? Reason I ask is I plugged mine in today for 3 hrs and when I turned key on the temp gauge only read up to min temp.

Teppler,

The reason you have to purchase an EGT probe is the Insite uses a plug in connector that is special to it's design. If you have an EGT probe in your truck now, it probably will not plug in/connect to the Insite. I did not have this issue because the 04's do not have a factory EGT gauge.

In regards to the block heater, it all depends on the ambient temperature. It only puts out so much. Check if it is working. An ohm meter should tell you.

My question is isn't EGT available through the Diagnostic plug? Surely the computer monitors the EGT temp.

No, that isn't monitored on any of the 6.0s out there. They started doing that with the 6.4s, but not the 6.0s. Just like Fuel PSI is another one that requires a special probe for the 6.0, but you can get it from the 6.4 computer. It sucks, but that's the way it is.
