Rusted 2.0L oil pan

I have a 2001 Escape with the 2.0L and 102K and the oil pan rusted out to the point where it had a severe leak. I caught it in time before it ran out of oil. I also have a 2001 2.0L with 140K, that is badly rusted and I will be replacing.

Just giving a heads up to peolpe. Maybe due to being MI cars, but never seen pans this rusted, not even on older cars.

Somebody told me one time that it's common out in the country driving dirt roads a lot.

Forgot to add gas tank leaks also.

I would imagine this being a problem in the Northern states with the use of road salt. This is why I like doing my own oil changes. If I see any signs of rust starting, it's getting cleaned up so I don't have to worry about future rust holes. Plus, lots of underbody washes during the winter here cuz they love their salt on these roads.

I didn't think Ford was using metal pans any more. My 99 Ranger with the 2.5L four and my 05 Escape with the 2.3L four both have cast alluminum pans.

The use of Fluid Film will help prevent those rust issues. It will stop corrosion caused by road salts and calcium chloride when used as a vehicle undercoating. If you haven't tried a sample yet, just PM me your contact info and I'll get a sample can out.
