carb problems?

carb problems?
i recently got my 78 runnin, and it goes good except it pops and backfires consistently while drivin, and im pretty sure the secondaries on my carb arent opening, im not that good with carbs, but anyone got any ideas on how to fix this?

Rebuild it. With $40 in parts and an afternoon she will run like new.

I'd first check your timing, also make sure your dist cap, rotor and plug wires are ok. Be sure to check the firing order, someone may have swiched a couple of plug wires around. If all this checkes out ok, then time to look at the carb. Popping and backfiring can indicate a lean condition, maybe a pice of dirt pluging one of the main jets.

ya the timing should be right on i checked that several times, replaced the plugs, and checked firing order, and adjusted the carb, i might pull it off tomorrow and see if i can find anything causing the problems..and also its an edelbrock
