While it looks good, a oil temp sender should be in the res if you do it like that, if not it will take a long time to warm up because the oil in that T does not get transfered out of the T, it is only under pressure and warms thru convexction. Not knocking it, but without fluid transfer your not getting the correct temp reading.
See where the brass colored plug is in the oil filter housing, that's where I have seen a few install a sensor to read the oil temp. and I plan on doing the same as soon as it warms up outside. ( Thanks Cody for the pic )

So would it be better to mount it in the filter housing where the brass plug is?
It doesn't matter how good of a cooler you have, it's it's pretty simple physics that it's not going to take the oil temperature all the way down to the water temperature.
