Goodyear Wrangler Authority (Wal-Mart Tires)

So I've been looking for some new tires and was looking for something that was cheap and looked rugged. Has anyone heard anything about the new goodyear tires at walmart.

They are cheap and look good. I'm just curious about wether they will last or not.

I had looked at them also and really liked the aggressive look. Ended up with some Hankook Dyna pro ATMs from discount tire. Wife seems to be happy with them.

The Walmart here doesn't carry tires, but after all the stories I've heard about Walmart tires, even ones that have real brand names, I don't think I could bring myself to buy tires there.

It might not be the case anymore, but as with many things Walmart sells, they contract with manufacturers for a more cheaply produced product, which is how they can sell stuff so cheap. In the case of tires, I presume that means less durable rubber compounds, and less rigorous quality control.

Any tire that you only see at Walmart, and not another, more reputable chain, is probably such, from what I've heard/read.

I just have a problem with buying anything that costs more than five dollars from a store that uses "Save money. Live better." as a motto(especially when it's a flat out lie, by the way).

I work for sears auto and we sell lots of Goodyear Wranglers, they are not all that cheap imo especially as the size goes up. But they seem to be a good tire for the street, and some off-roading. If walmarts are the same tire as ours and the price is right then it would be a good deal.

Goodyear Wrangler is a broad category. It covers everything from RT/S passenger and LT tires, up to considerably more expensive, better tires. They make different "Wranglers" for different applications, so it's quite possible that they make a cheapo version for Walmart.

They do NOt look like any goodyear that anyone else sells. It must be walmart specific. Then when they do no sell enough of them they will be discontinued.
http://www.goodyeartires.com/goodyea...ea=Light+Truck Scroll down and see that "GOODYEAR" tires look like, not the wally world type

And "cheap" and "rugged" do not go in the same tire

Didn't see those tires on the goodyear or wally world site. I have bought a couple sets of tires from them, set of goodrich at's and a set of their uniroyal liberators. Both were good tires and lasted longer than their mileage ratings.
Problem that I had was right after I got the second set they had a big turnover of tire shop folks. After that they couldn't seem to get them balanced right, I ended up goign to a local tire shop and having them do it.

Why would anyone want to skimp on tires and buy cheap ones? Brakes and steering are the two most important systems on a vehicle - without good tires neither one will be vy effective. When I buy tires I buy the best tires I can find. Which is why I spent some coin on a set of Michelin ATX/2's. They weren't cheap but these tires handle in the snow like no other tire I ever had. Cars were sliding off the road - with chains on - and I didn't engage the 4wd once and never even slipped.

Not naming names but after having multiple sets of tires dry rot after a 1 1/2 years on a vehicle that's an every day driver, I'm convinced some of the bigger chain's get 2nd quality tires.

I now go to a small local guy that gives me close to the same deal or even better sometimes, and when he says he aligned the truck it was actually done.

I agree with 1ATony the small shops are usually your best bets. I like the looks of the Wrangler Authority tires though. At my local Wal-Mart the Wrangler Authority tires are $130 for one 31.10.50x15, thats not exactly a bargain bin price for a 15 inch tire, maybe they are decent.

I just had two Good Years put on the Jeep.My wife called me and said man the truck feels allot different. I said to her it must be your imagination.

One 2 mile trip to the store in that truck and I could tell right off the bat the guy aligned the truck. The front end wasn't loose like it had been for two years, and I didn't need to leave it for a day.

I did buy the Uniroyal tires for a Jimmy I had from Wal Mart, and they did last.

Look at a few tire ratings/reviews on tire rack or discount tires site, some of the cheaper tires have the best ratings/reviews. The hankook atm rf10's are the highest rated tire they have on discount tire.com. They are way cheaper than the lower rated michelins. Never tried either tire but it may be worth the time to check around before just buying a tire cause it costs a lot.
