diff question????
my 1990 f350 mason dump, manuel trans 2wd broke the front u joint while plowing so i droped the rest of the driveshaft. fixed the joint changed the output seal on the trans. then hooked it all upt. heres my problem. got in the cab to try things out. started to go foward and it was like the parking brake was on. couldnt go forward. then put it in reverse and was able to backup about 5 to 6 feet then it was like hitting a hall. i think something is messed up with the diff.
truck is stuck in one of my lots
if anyone can help please let me know your thoughts. also if i can do the work or is this something to leave to the pro. and cost ideas

u may have busted the ring and pinion... had that happen in some chevys....
uhm take the cover off the back and look at the ring and pinion and in the bottom of the housing u prolly got chunks of the teeth in it

u cand do it in the lot...
scotch the front wheels and drop the rear driveshaft
take the pinion yoke off
remove the wheels and drums
there are 4 bolts in each axle holding them on the housing take them out... u have to go threw the hole in the mounting flange
slide the axles out
take the diff cover off *assumeing u putt it back on after finding out this is the problem*
take the diff retaining u caps off and pull the diff out then take a mallet and put the nut on the pinion and peck it out if it doesnt slide out..
then remove the ring gear by taking the bolts out of the differential
then put the new ring gear on tightening in a star pattern
and get new bearing pressed on new pinion and reassemble *check ur back lash*
if u give me ur axle info ill see if i can find u the specks on every thing
