180 or 195 degree thermostat for '89 300
#3
195 is what it came with, and 195 is what the computer expects to see as soon as possible. 195 will help the heater output in winter, and will not cause overheating in summer. If you have overheating problems, it is not related to the difference between a 180 and 195 deg stat.

OK I looked in my maint. log and it is a 195.
fmr9 What happens when the computer does not get to see 195?
The only thing that happens is in the summer time after I get home and turn the truck off a blower comes on that shoots air across the fuel injectors.
Is this from high under-hood temperatures?

I have the same year/engine setup as you.
Stick with the 195 'stat as is suggested.
The blower that comes on shoots air right at/on the injectors. The fan itself is right on the Passenger Side fender so it's still engine compartment air - just far away (relatively) from the source of heat so it's a bit cooler.
Believe this was a stop-gap attempt by Ford at some problems they had with earlier models (2 years?) of fuel Injection and injector failures caused by heat?
I'm purely speculating here. I'm sure someone else here knows the real reason.
It sure doesn't come on in the winter (most parts of the country) though.....
