I may be having the same problem..:)

I`ve read with great interest the replies to 2millwork`s problem as I am going through a similar problem. My 1997 7.3 started acting up (really rough Idle when started cold) a couple of monts ago. I`m not a mechanic so I called a friend (Buz) who is and he suggested the fuel filter. I replaced and problem went away. It`s now back, replaced the fuel filter and oil, did not fix this time. My problem started as rough idle (engine light on) and no power but cleared up after a couple of minutes and only happened every couple of days. Yesterday it happened again and lastest the entire 10 mile trip into work. Dropped it off a Buz`s shop and it wouldn`t fail all day. Picked it up and it ran fine for 10 minutes and started acting up again. Turned around and it stopped. 5 minutes later it started again and lastest all the way home and stayed acting up all the way into work today. Stopped acting up when I pulled into Buz`s shop...
If Buz can`t find the problem I`ll start pulling wires tonight. From what I`ve read the ICP seem to be a popular place to start. Is there an order I should do pull these in, are these sensors something I should replace as `normal` maintenance ? Thanks for any help you can offer.

So far I've replaced the CPS and ICP sensors. Last night when I replaced the ICP it ran rough for a couple of minutes and then ran smooth. This morning the truck ran really rough when cold (engine light on), but ran "smooth" (engine light goes off) after a few minutes. Have you found your problem yet 2millwork ?

2millwork,

You can always swap sensors from the van to the truck (one at a time) to find or rule out a bad sensor. That is what I would do in this situation. Swap the IPR solenoid as well. It is not a sensor but an electromagnet that controls the valve in the IPR to regulate ICP.

Edit: You can also swap the TPS if they both have a single connector.

Edit 2 : Changing the IPR solenoid may not be worth the trouble. The new IPR should have come with a new one, but you never know.
