So I just finished rebuilding the front end of my 85 F350 6.9L Diesel. I was actually cleaning my tools up when I bent over to pickup a wrench and noticed the larger front fuel tank was leaking all over my driveway. This truck is not going to let me off the hook easy. So I pulled the brush guard off the tank and took a closer look. Thankfully, Its only wet on the front drivers side corner. Upon closer Inspection I came to noticed that the tank was already slathered with some sort of black putty; clearly this is a problem that somebody else already attempted to fix. Upon further inspection I realized that the tank was actually leaking along the seam (that holds it together). The leak is a slow drip, but extends about 6 inches long.
How do I fix this? I really cannot afford to replace a tank right now.
Hello Dan
Ever wonder how they turn wings of big airliners into fuel tanks when they are made up of sheets of metal all riveted together? Well the answer is Pro-Seal and that is the answer to your problem.
Drain the tank, clean it or degrease it. Scrub it to bare metal with Scotch Brite (red) medium or sand paper if you prefer. And mix the pro seal very well following the instructions, it's very easy you just want to mix all the harder in. I would buy the tubes that have the correct amount of harder in the tube. Put this stuff on and it will never leak again. You see jet fuel is much like diesel. Be generous with the application. I can't emphisize enough MIX IT THROUGHLY AND THE SURFACE NEEDS TO BE ABSOLUTELY CLEAN WITH NO OIL OR GREASE USE MEK OR LACUER THINNER.
This really is good stuff. Next time you are at 35,000 ft with your children in the seat next to you , you will know that this stuff is the only thing between you and a fiery death.
Let the stuff cure for a couple of days or longer if it cold outside. Take the time to down load the tech sheet for the how to. I would use the Class A brushable. Get it on your hands and it will be very hard to get off. Do not use MEK to wash your hands, it will come off with soap and water while scrubbing your hands with scoth brite. Use MEK and your hands will be black for a month.
I called Bergdhal Associates about this product, and was told they can get it for me but it will take 4-6 weeks. I need it a little quicker obviously. They referred me to PPG Aerospace Support, I will have to call them on Monday.
Sounds like what I am looking for; where can I purchase it?
P.S. the reasons listed above are the reasons I try not to fly

You can purchase the tubes here, one tube otta do it. The stuff they are calling chemseal is the same stuff. Aircraft Spruce are good people I have been buying and selling with them for years. They are still open and will have it now.
