Hi chaps,

Been doing some work/investigating on the truck today to see what bits I'm going to need and have a couple of questions and would be grateful if anyone can help.

I'm sure many will recognise the pictures as the gear selector linkage and rod. I am just after confirmation that the hole should be round and that this has worn into this shape. Also, the rod I guess should not have the recess in the end and used to be round. The symptoms were, not staying in park and dropping into Reverse, now fixed. This was held together with string!! I have done a better but still temporary job with cable ties but I assume this should have a bush like the top linkage?!

Does anyone know from pics below if it is the correct carb for the '66 F100, I believe it is a later replacement. Any help much appreciated, Chris

D3OF-EA = D4PZ9510G .. 2V Motorcraft Carburetor (Motorcraft CA1026B)

2J 29: Assembled September (J) 29, 1972 (2).

Original application: 1973/74 Ford Torino 302.

D4AZ9A586A .. Carburetor Tune Up Kit (Motorcraft CT499D) / D4AZ9A586A replaced C2AZ9A586B (CT499D replaced CT499A, B, C).

Even though this isn't the original carb, it is similar to the original in many ways.

It has an electric choke that was not used on 1965/66's, as these trucks have a manual choke.

On the top of the airhorn is the "choke pull off diaphragm" first used in 1970.

If you had the original carb, it would use this SAME carb tune up kit.

All 1962/74 Passenger Cars/Trucks/Bronco's/Econoline's with either an Auto-Lite or Motorcraft carb use this kit.

btw: I'll work on the linkage next.

Thanks Bill, I have edited my post with the full pic of the carb. I think the diaphragm you speak of is missing, there is a space for something on the other side of the carb (not seen in pic).

I have X-ray vision, so I can see it!

Actually .... see that cover on the rear of the airhorn? The choke pull off diaphragm (DOAZ9J549C) is under that cover.

The diaphragm's J shaped lever pokes thru a hole in the cover.

Ah, ok then, something else is missing on the throttle cable side... or would that have been for the old carb? Looks like it may have been some sort of throttle damper or close the top flap slightly under hard acceleration???

Would there be more vac pipes on the later carb? Someone has plugged two pipes off, shoved a spark plug up what looks like a breather pipe on the back of the carb and the electric choke unit is sucking air in, this can't be doing a lot of good?!

I have a manual coming so I am hoping all this will become clear when I get it.

C5TZ7A256F .. Manual Control Selector Lever / C5TZ7A256F replaced C5TZ7A256A & C5TZ7A256E / Obsolete

No Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.

The bushing was swagged into the lever, so it was not available separately.

Thought that would probably be the case. I will have to see what engineering genius I can come up with.

Kooters Harley Davidson

I do know that this number is much newer than the truck, because back then, the first two numbers would have been letters.

So instead of 981-1340, the number could have read like this: WT1-1340. When the phone companies did away with the letters, they used the corresponding numbers instead.

I have a longtime pal who collects old (1978), older (1939) and ancient (1915) Harley's. I'll give him a call and see if he recognizes the name.

Hi Bill,

Did you manage to speak to your Harley pal about the Kooters Harley Davidson name?

Chris

Also, can anyone tell me the original tyre size on the F100, 15" wheel.

Thanks

I called him...twice...he hasn't called me back...he might be in AZ. He has no cell phone, no computer either.

If he did go to AZ, he's driving one of two vehicles. An all original 1954 F100, or a mostly original 1934 DeSoto Airflow.

Nothing else he owns will make it that far...the newest vehicle he owns is a 1971 Buick Riviera, the oldest is a 1923 Model T.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As original: 1965 F100 tire sizes: 7.10-15 or 7.75-15. Both were bias-ply's.

No radials were factory installed on any Ford truck until the mid 1970's, and then...only if the customer so ordered the truck that way.

In fact, US automakers did not offer radial tires until the late 1960's, and once again, on most of them, radial tires were optional.

The first US car to have radial tires as standard equipment was the 1966 FWD Oldsmobile Toronado.

In Festung Europa, the first car to have radial tires as standard equipment was the 1955 FWD Citroen ID19 sedan.

Ok, thanks. Is the 7.10/7.75 the width of the tyre in inches and do you have a measurement for the profile (depth of the sidewall)? Sorry for asking but we mix and match imperial and eurobabble here, so our tyre size measurements look like this 195-75-15 (width in mm - profile in mm -wheel size in inches), don't ask!!! We also spell tyres incorrectly.

Thank you for your suggestion, may see if I can find a bike forum and ask around on there. I guess this thread is getting a little long now but I thought it best to try not to post loads of threads for sake of two or three posts, ie questions about tyres.

Vehicle owner history

Hi guys,

Does your vehicle registration agency (if there is one) have a means of researching previous owners of vehicles? Just wondering as I am interested in finding out my 66's history.

Not a lot of work done on the ol' truck as I have been waiting for parts to arrive. The DC's order arrived quickly and parts have been fitted, correct mirrors, new horn ring and brushes. Unfortunately they didn't have the turn signal switch in stock (mine has broken up, now coming from LMC). Second order is from LMC but they seem to be taking their time a bit, however they seem to have a good stock and found their site nice to use.

Few more pics added to my garage also.

Chris
