oxygen sensor
i have a 1986 ford f 150 with a 302 fi. i have found the o2 sensor and wire but cant find out were the wire goes. aqlso any tips for breaking the old one loose? thanks

Yeah, I am waiting for tips on breaking the old one loose, I pretty much have the old one rounded off from the o2 sensor socket and still can't manage to get it out, I have tried several penetrating sprays/lubes and even one called rustsolvo that broke my rusted stuck air pump check valve free almost instantly.

i was about ready to take the torch to the truck! lol
Do I just heat it up really good then try to back it out or is there something else?

That's it. Try not to stop once you get it turning or it may freeze up worse than before.

with mine there is a plug/single wire harness that it gets plugged into just off the passengers side of the carb. I don't know what the configuration is on the 302 it may or may not be the same. Mine has a white female wire spade type connection. It is round about the size of a dime at the end and the female spade type connection is inside this harness. Was yours not connected at all when you started? I don't know if the connections are the same or not but I can post a picture of my harness if it will help. Just let me know, I have been messing around with my old O2 sensor still trying to get it out. I have tried everything, several sprays, torch, and the ******* still wont break free.

Is it safe to weld the new one on while everything is still hooked up to the truck or do I have to pull the manifold? Would you recommend welding into the manifold or into the tailpipe just below the collector? 1 more question, do I just drill out the hole a little larger than the o2 sensor size and then just weld the new bung on?

I'd put it in the pipe. The exhaust gaskets and everything is built to withstand some heat so you should be ok leaving everything hooked up.
I'll have to admit I've never done it though, it was just an idea I had because of all the people with headers doing it.
I'm thinking my '80 has it in the pipe from the factory, but I know my '94 Toyota does and maybe that's what I'm remembering.
I would think you would just drill a hole slightly larger than the I.D. and weld away. Maybe someone who has done it will chime in here one way or the other.

I would leave the old one in and put another one in the exhaust pipe. The new bung is taperd so you can drill the hole then put it in with out it falling into the pipe. Make sure you don't get any slag on the threads. If you can get your hands on some Aero Kroil I am pretty sure it will get the old O2 lose. I just replaced the O2 on my 86 tonight with no problems.
