inline 240

I have a stock 240ci straight 6 in my 65 f100. I wanna add some power to it, but all i can really find people modify on it are cams. Is it worth the work to put a better cam in it? are there other ideas to make it perform better? Thanks to any responses

HP options

There are many options with the 240. Some of the options would include pulling, stripping the block, and taking it to a machine shop. You can think about hp pistons, possibly forged, and higher compression. People also deck the block on the 240, and/or have the head shaved a bit.

The most important step to hp gain is having the head ported and polished. You could also consider having larger valves installed. With the p&p job, have the ports matched to a good intake and set of headers.

From there you could think about a nice 2v or little 4v carb, or fuel injection set up. That would lead you to having the dizzy recurved with a high energy system installed, and an MSD box.

On www.classicinlines.com, in the tech section, you will find guidelines for building up inlines. I would target a specific horse power you want, along with mpg, drivability, etc., and shoot for that. Do your research first, and make files for the useful info you will need during the process. I recently saw a video online of a little 170 inline being dyno'ed, and it produced just over 200 hp!

Decide what you want to acheive, and target that. Money also plays a large part, and draws many a boundary. Be smart, do research, and stick with the plan to reach a specific goal. Good luck.
