Code Help and Opinions

Well, I'm hoping someone can help or give a little advice about what to do with the codes I just pulled from my truck today. The truck is a '93 F250 4x4. It has the 5.8L engine and I believe the E4OD transmission. Anyway, the check engine light came on while running at 65mph for about 25 miles on the freeway. The light was on until I got off the freeway, then it was gone as soon as I stopped to turn off the ramp. It went on for a minute then off again for a minute or two the rest of the way home for the next 15 minutes or so while driving surface streets.

I ran the KOEO self test and this is what I came up with:

328 - EVP or PFE Close Volt Less Than Expected
10 - ?
173 - Lack of O2 Switching Bank 1 (Rich)
327 - EVP Ckt Min Volt
328 - Again
617 - 1-2 Shift Error
628 - Excessive Converter Clutch Slippage

Any and all comments are welcome. I'm hoping the last two don't mean transmission work in my future, but it seems pretty logical that's what I'm looking at. I'm not usually that lucky for it to be anything else. Thanks in advance.

tbe 1 0 ? was the transition to stored codes in the memory. Check your EGR solenoid (or EVP) and make sure it's attempting to open your EGR valve. I'd start there

Thanks, will do. It's too dark out to take a look at it anymore tonight so I will have to start fresh tomorrow after work. Should I not be concerned about the transmission codes at this point?

Funny you say that, because I have not felt that my transmission has been messing up at all. Seems like it shifts when it's supposed to shift and all that. I have only had this truck for about three months. It has 106k miles on it, but it has run the same since I bought it. Nothing to note, that I can see. The bummer of it is I was planning on taking the family camping this weekend in it about 150 miles from home. Now I'm not so sure because I don't want to take the chance on stranding everyone.

haha well the way i look at it, the only problem is most likely the egr system. seeing as you can run with it completely disconnected, i think you're safe to risk it. you might lose a couple mpg but oh well, its a truck

In your first post you talk about a transition to "stored codes in the memory". I don't understand what that means. If the code before the "10" is not a stored code, what is it?

the light just blinks once to tell you it's switching from the actual KOEO test to the codes that have been stored from when the engine was running

I checked the EGR solonoid and there was a bit of vacuum at the hose, not sure how to check anything else on that. Also stopped by a local transmission shop on the way to work this morning just to see what the guy had to say. He took it for a spin and came back five minutes later and said there was nothing wrong with the transmission. Said it did just fine. He also looked at the codes I was given and said most were ghost codes and shouldn't be much to worry about. He ran the codes again and could not get anything to come up, don't know what that was about, but the CEL never came on all the way to the shop, or for the rest of the day going to and from work. I don't know what to think, but I do know two things. The first one is the truck seems to be running fine. The second thing is I'm going camping Friday morning!!! Thanks again for your help and confidence.
