Help!!! A couple of months ago I had a rebuilt e4od installed in my 94 F150 4x4 w/302. After installation the problem was hard shifting, not engaging when placed in gear. After many months and much hassle, ie calling the rebuilder who was 300 km away, we added 2 litres of atf, and my problems seem to have been eliminated. The dipstick had shown that the trans mission was full, and now shows overfull. My local Ford dealer checked out the engineering # on the dipstick and said that it was correct for my truck. My question is: are there more than one depth of stock transmission pans available for my truck? and was this something the installer should have noticed? Thanks for any help anyone can give me.
From what I have been told and this is from a mechanic at a tranny shop, the E40D has a slightly deeper sump for the transmission fluid pan for the four wheel drives than on the 2 wheel drives with E40D's. That could be one possibilitiy but it seems that Ford would have compensated for that with the right dipstick. Did it read high before the rebuild? I would take my tranny back to the shop and tell themthe prob and have it fixed before something worse happens. Good Luck.
