Red face Rewiring O/D button

1992 E350 E4OD w/7.5

Don't think any of that info is pernenent. The end of my shift lever came off in my hand, ripped the wires for the O/D button right off. There is;

Purple/Orange that has a system voltage load in Run/Acc and goes to pin #1 on the OEM harness/plug
White/Light Blue which seems to have a 3VDC load goes to pin #2
Green/White that has a lesser load than P/O goes to pin #3

I know that I could replace the whole shaft for <$50.00 but I just want to put a push button switch in with an light so I still have the OD on/off information and any error light.

I though this would be a quick easy job. But wouldn't you know a momentary on momentary off switch with a LED is harder to find than I would have thought. Am I missing something, that's the type of button I want isn't it?

Purple orange is the power feed like you thought.

The other wire colors do not match the ones in my diagram. I thought that was because I have a 1995 diagram, but I looked on autozone's site and they list the same color wires on the same computer pins on a 92 that the 95 diagram has.

I show a tan/white and a white/lightgreen.

The tan/white is the signal wire to the computer. It gets 12v when you tap the switch.

The white/lightgreen is the ground for the LED. The + of the LED is tied inside the switch to the purple/orange 12v wire. The negative of the LED is on the white/lightgreen. When the computer is ready to tell you the tranny is in OD, the computer will ground this wire and light the LED. It also grounds this wire to give error codes for the tranny.

What I would do is buy a ordinary momentary switch, and then go by radio shack and get a LED already set up for 12v. If you get a ordinary LED, it will need the proper resistor. If you get a underdash switch that already comes with a little panel to mount it, I would drill a small hole beside the switch if there is room, and glue the LED in place, and hook it up that way.

If you have a "You pull the part" junkyard nearby it probably would cost $2. At least that's what the one near me charged.
