GEM problems?, Help
I've got this problem that keeps popping up from time to time, when I shut my truck off it will act like the key is still in the ignition, when I lock the doors, the drivers door will unlock. The dome light will stay on. If I run the truck, the door ajar light will be lit. Door switches are fine and I have replaced the key switch in the ignition switch also. The only way I can get it back to normal is to unhook the batteries for a second.
My door fob has also quit working and when I try to re-program it the GEM seems to not go thru the sequince right. Could the GEM be bad? Can you have them re-flashed? 02, f350, 4x4, SRW CC.

Yes, you can get the GEM reprogrammed. But make sure you don't have a windshield water leak. This has happened and the gem gets wet.
Edit: I just noticed you have an '02. I believe you have a VSM (Vehicle Security Module) and not a GEM.

I don't think my windshield has leaked, everything underdash looks dry and dusty. My truck doesn't have/use a security key like my Expedition nor does it have the light, does that mean its the GEM and not the VSM? Has anybody had one re-flashed..Whats the cost. Thanks for the response.

99-01 GEM Located on the back side of the passanger compartment fuse panel
02-03 VSM Located "behind" the radio on the firewall

Hello Jim.Hope you and J are doing well.My VSM went out and it caused all kinds of weird crap to go on inside the truck.Ran fine but electical demons.

Thanks for the information, will a re-program of the VSM take care of the problem? Would I have to take my chip out of my PCM or will it be ok.
