trans problems..

trans problems..

The trans started acting up last night. I was going down the freeway then i stopped at a light after getting off. When the light turned green it took off fine but didn't want to shift into second. It did finaly shift but then seemed like it was slipping. I made it home and checked the fluid it was full. This truck sat for 14 years not being started regularly. I got it running and the trans was shifting fine. I had no indication that anything was wrong untill it just wouln't do anything. I got it warm this morning and checked it again. Definently full. It won't shift into any gear. Also how do you tell what type of trans I have. The truck has a 360 , auto trans, and everything is original.

Now I go out to push it into the drive and it's going ito gear. WTF?

well i would drop the pan change the filter and fluid, im not real sure its been alot of years since i owned one with an automatic but i believe it has a modulator valve on it. that kind of sounds like what it could be and if it does have one i would change it to.

also i forgot, if u have a 13 bolt pan its a FMX/Cruiseomatic - 11 bolt is a C4 and a 17 bolt is a C6

The transmission you have is a C-6. The vacum modulater if faulty will not allow 3rd gear or just plain leak fluid into engine. Your transmission will need an overhaul. the internal seals that apply the clutches a brittle and hard.

LMC truck has modulator valves for around $15 buck and filter and gasket for around $10. Should be page 99 of the catalouge
