A/C Compressor

Alright I have a '70 F-100 with a 302 that i recently rebuilt. My question for today has to do with the A/C Compressor. Originally the compressor was situated vertically, when i rebuilt the motor I decided for a few reasons that it would be better if it were situated horizontally (i rotated it 90 degrees towards the drivers side of the truck). I havent had a belt on it since it doesnt work anyway but due to a solenoid on my carb I would like to put a belt on it soon. Before I did that I just wanted to make sure that it was ok to have on it's side?

Also, on a different but similar note, when I first got the truck the A/C compressor had a support bracket on it that went from the compressor to a bolt on the exhaust manifold. When I put headers on it I was no longer able to use this set-up. Part of my thinking with turning it sideways was it may not require this support as much. At the moment I am not actually running the compressor so is this bracket even needed? or would I be ok running with out one on it? Will it be needed once I get the system charged and actually start running the compressor?

If it is the YORK two cylinder.. no problem with it being on the side.

Without the side brace you may get a bit more vibration. Those compressors were not the smoothest anyway. I had that brace off of mine for a bit a did notice a bit of difference when I put it back. In the end, I upgraded the compressor for a sanden. Much much better. Smooth as silk!

It's whatever came from the factory (or dealer, I'm not sure, anyone know how to tell the difference?).

Alright, I got no problem with vibrations, I have a mild cam upgrade on mine so I have vibrations no matter what (not complaining though). I just wanted to make sure it wasn't gonna damage the compressor or if it would even go as far to rip itself off of its mounting bracket.

i do believe mounting a york sideways is not the best thing. i could be wrong or talking out of my butt although it requires a specific level of oil in it and it has a small crankshaft inside of it. so mounting it sideways i would have to think would starve certain parts of it from oil, not to mention the oil would spill into your lines....
i treat mine like its a newborn puppy and it still vibrates and grinds like a freakin hammer in a blender,
but heres a handy link......York air compressor
it is for offroaders who use it as just an air compressor but its a good read anyhow
