front end work
i got a wobble in the front end at highway speeds ( all i do is highway driving ). front left tire wearing on outside. front right tire has alot of play up and down and a small amount left and right when jacked up. took off the wheel and auto hub andchecked wheel bearings there ok. Went and bought ball joints upper and lowers gonna replace em tommarow. should i have got some tie rod ends too? anything else i should know or replace while in there? gonna change both side ball joints then get an alignment.

Hows the right tire wearing? Is it on the outside also or is it on the inside? A wobble while driving could be from the tires being toed out but the tires would be worn on the inside which could point you towards bearings. Did you completely dissasemble the hub from the spindle assembly or just check inside the hub without taking it off? If you support one tire and jack the other up have someone try to rock the tire in and out(from top and bottom), you should see very little to no play in the ball joints. Do the same thing with the hub off to see if you notice any movement between the hub and the spindle. Try the same thing with someone pushing/pulling on the front and rear of the tire to see if theres any movement in the tie rod ends. Then with the wheels firmly on the ground have someone jerk the steering wheel back and forth (with the engine off, power steering could screw with the results) and check all the moving parts from the steering column down for anything that looks loose. Then for good measure take the steering damper off(if there is one I'm not sure), and make sure there's a fair amount of resistance when you compress/extend it.

I'd think about doing the u-joints while the axles are out... there not too expensive but not cheap either..my guess is under a 100 bucks for all three... I think the inner u-joint requires removal of the diff cover and a clip or pin to get the axle out... even with the extra little work it would be a good time to do it if you can.
