Coke will also clean crusty battery terminals clean as a whistle and keep them clean for months.

I just had an ex-Marine tell me that they used to use pennies (about 10-15 per can of coke) and coke to remove rust, just submerge the part(s) and watch the rust melt away. He says it will also clean gunpowder and any type of resin.

If you really want to see something strange take a 2 1/2''- "3" framing nail and let it set in a "cola" bottle for a few days. If you have the patience let it set for a week. By the end of the week there wont be a nail anymore. Been there, done it.

Something even more interesting is the fact that my family's homemade guava jelly will take rust off too. Papa says he won't eat anything a cat will bury.

ctubutis pointed me to this thread off my "dog dish" question.

I've used Coke to clean battery posts since the mid-70s and it never occurred to me to try it on rust.

Bumper, before and after, 45 seconds of aluminum foil and Coke, followed by a spritz of Windex. I like to say that nothing surprises me anymore, so I'll say instead that I'm astounded.

Second photo - rim cleaned with Coke and a worn-out Scotchbrite pad.

Willey, I also use white distilled vinegar to clean the rust off of my bolt and small parts. I just soak them for a day or two, then wash them with some soap and water to stop the acidic action. Then I prime and paint them. I have also used the coke and foil or steel wool method.

Before;

After soaking;

After buffing and washing;
