Muffler Rust.

Muffler Rust.
I have a sneaking suspicion that my ol' retired truck is harboring rust in the muffler it hasn't shown up on the outside and I can't punch a hole through it yet but when I shake it, it rattles. Is that normal, its a Flowmaster 40 series muffler. I'm thinking I might just buy a new one (Cherrybomb, Dynomax). Steer me in the right direction.

Change it out, your right to suspect rust because thats what your hearing rattling around in there. Its not normal at all to hear somting moving around inside a muffler. That happend to my buddys 76 Cobra II. He replaced them with Thrush mufflers (not sure what model) and they make it sound really good! With the old ones the exhaust sounded "buzzy" on the inside of the car, and when we removed the old ones we heard what you are hearing. But you really should replace the one on your truck! Hope this helps!

I remember seeing cherry bombs for as low as 25.00 at pep boys, the most expensive ones go for around 90-100 bucks depending on the brand. Or if you want it to be quiet, any parts store can get you a generic one even cheaper!

almost any parts store can get you the cherry bomb glass packs here we have oriellys and autozone and a few others most of which can get 36 inch cherry bombs for about 25-30 buck put some on the bosses chevy (which i hat spent to mny God dang hours in to fixing the stupid thing) but they made it sound awesome also the bright red sticks out if your in a four wheel drive.

I'm going to over to Kragen's or Autozone today and do some investigation. Its definetly cost effective. But the local muffler shop owes me a favor so i'll check them out to. I smell a freebie.
