Does not sound like fun. I think that you are on the right path in taking the time here and re-wiring it so that at least that can be eliminated from any future issues when it comes to trouble shooting

thats what I was thinking. The part I cant figure out is, why the block isnt working as a ground.

.Keep it Clean. They may have a harness for you or be able to custom make one.

Grasping for straws here... how is the ground strap from the engine to the chassis ??

I dont know, im gonna have to crawl under it tommorrow again, and take a look. I dont remember seeing one, but i wasnt looking either.

If I remember correctly on my 84 Monte Carlo, there was a ground strap that went from the fire wall to the back of one of the heads. It usually is one of those flat braided type of cables.
