02 7.3 is hit and miss in starting.

O2' 7.3 CC Long box, just turned 100,000 miles, here is my problem. Sometimes, and by this i mean 1 out of every 20 times i start the thing, it wont start, when it doesn't start i put put it into neutral and it starts right up, every time, what is broken guys?

i think its called like a neutral saftey switch or mudule on your transmission must be goin out my friend had the same problem wouldnt start unless it was in neutral replaced the part and it was fixed

Is there any slop in your shift lever? If so it may need to be tightened up. If not the neutral safety switch may be on it's way out.

Ya, i just spoke to the mechanic at work, he said the same things about the neutral safety switch and the slop in gear shifter. How do i fix the slop in gear shifter?

This is an automatic, correct? Look at the steering column above the brake pedal while moving the gear select lever. There is a torx fitting there that gets lose and allows slop. Hope this helps.
