Is your 68 a 4x4 ? If it is and it had an FE in it the frame mounts will work with the 460.We put several 429 and 460's out of Lincolns in 67-72 Ford 4x4s. We used the engine mounts for the FE engines and took a 11/2" hole saw and drilled a new hole to line up with the holes on the side of the block.

My 78 F2504x4 had L&L mounts. They were both broken, possibly for years, I never noticed until I unbolted the drivers side motor mount to replace a frost plug, and the motor lifted straight up off both mounts.
I replaced them with the Trans-Dapt Poly mounts. Doesn't feel any different to me.
My 69 F100 4x4 has engine towers identical to my 78 FYI

is it noticable vibration etc..., I will be running a 95' F350 460EFI motor then twin turbo later... so want something that wont fall apart. I will have small turbos on it for towing purposes, so nothing major (so far) but when towing on long trips want a nice smooth ride

Here's a link to some other poly conversion mounts that work for the 351M/400 towers to convert over to a 460...West Coast Broncos: These are a little cheaper than the L&L stuff. Just another option...

Interesting but theres a little wrong and write in this whole conversation. Correct until 77 the largest engine was an FE motor but there was a 390 4bbl option for the 250s in 76-77. The 351-400 was always a 2bbl and quickly modified by industruis owners with t-bird/ linclon /ltd 4bbl intake and carbs. The 460 however was availible in the 1979 F-350 4X4 with 8,000gvw only. Special order only. The 429 was a car only motor from start to finsh. They also mounted it in 77-79 F250/350 4X2s and 77-79 F150 Supercab trailer specials. My 78 Supercab 250 Dually custom uses the L&L mounts on a beefed up engine without fail for over 20k. I also adapted 81-83 F250 460 mounts in my 79 mudder. Both trucks are 4X4 and had 400s to start with. THe L&L short haeder also flows well along with a nice fit.

1976 was the last year for the 360/390.
1974/76: The 390 could be ordered with a 4V (VIN engine code M).
There is no such thing as a factory 1979 F350 4WD with a 460.
1983 was the first year the 460 was available with 4WD (F350's only).
1973/79 F100/350's were all availabe with a 460, 2WD only.
EVERY 351M or 400 installed in F100/350's, Econolines, Bronco's and Passenger Cars was a 2V.
There is no such thing as a 4V 351M or 400. Not in Lincolns, T-Birds..not in anything!
429: 1968/73 passenger cars only. No 429's were factory installed in any F100/350.

Zakt sorry I didn't get back to your question on the FE mounts computer crashed and just got back on line. Yes you have to drill through the rubber. Turn the FE mount over and put the 460 mount on it line up the top hole and scribe the bottom hole. Then drill from the back with a pilot drill for the holesaw then flip it over and using the hole saw drill down to the bottom plate and take a chisel or knife to remove the rubber plug and drill the hole to right bolt size. Alot cheaper than buying from L&L or the others.

Boy I'm glad to see you boys having this conversation. This should be a cake question. I have a early 77 F250 4x4. VIN says it came with a 400M. But I bought it with a 390. (4 speed) Quickly figured out the mounts were shot and went to replace them only to see that the mounts are off by 1/2-3/4 in to the rear. Looks like the previous guy forced them. So my question is does the same perches work for a 400M & FE or do I need to modify these 400 perches for the FE and how exactly??
