Whats so wrong with monroe magnums?

Hey , I replaced my upper and lower ball joints(80,000 miles on the truck) with new moog ball joints
and yes I agree with ya these moogs are alot heavier duty than any other ball joints out there bar-none..
So here's the deal I am changing out my shocks and really can't see paying that crazy prize for rancho 9,000's if i really don't need'em for road use only no offroadinG BUT I am looking for a great shock that can handle the extra sprung and unsprung weight
of a wich legend bumper and a 16.500lbs winch. Can someone tell me some facts /real info on if a rancho 9,000 is still the better shock versus a monroe magnum in winch bumper use scenario for street use only?

Any feedback is allways a plus...
THANKS

I have driven vehicles with both and have noticed like everything before you get what you pay for. The rancho's are a good shock, but there are much better offroad. For everyday street use the monroe's should work fine, but not as good a ride to me as the rancho's or if you ever decide to wander off the beaten path. Any way you go the 4x4's always ride a little rougher than the 2wd.

I'm suprised nobody has said it yet, but most people on here recommend the Bilstein shocks, even over the Rancho 9000Xs. You may want to look into those.

The Monroe is a vast improvement over worn out factory shocks. The ride is good enough if you get a good set. My problem with them was I got one that failed within 1000 miles and ruined a tire, so saving myself some money on shocks ended up costing me over a hundred dollars for a new tire (that was almost new).

OK thanks fellows so far it seems that billstein maybe the winner for overall best stock height shock but I was thinking today what about if I am gonna be puttin some serious dough down for a serious shock would a double shock setup on each front side be a thumbs down or would it maybe work good foer a winch bumper/winch combo ?
If so then who sells a twin shock setup?
I really want to get this one right cause I just put 2 new tires on the front and basically the front is like new for another 80,thou
Heck I really think an 01 f350 4x4 front end is heavy and hard on the suspension and then add a winch and texas style bumper and whoa boy.

What about this twin shock idea or just go ahead and buy the billsteins?THANKS

If you knew my past history with Monroe, you wouldn't touch them. I had different series Monroe shocks installed in several vehicles, largely because they were recommended. Those shocks are a waste. Very short lived, and they didn't dampen shock nearly as well as they said they would. I would go with the Ranchos, or consider a KYB.

Why hasn't anyone said that monroes are a twin tube set up? 50's tech here. anything you get that is a mono tube shock will be what you would what to get. I was running the monroes on my truck and ended up in the same boat you are now. i looked at shockwarehouse.com and picked a set of kyb monomax shocks.

I have noticed the Magnums are a rough riding shock. I can order Rancho's through my work beings they are part of Tenneco like Monroe.
