The link is dead in the sticky above, so I have to ask. Need to check if the computer is alive and what codes might be pending. How do you do the check engine light "blink" thing or how do you use a DVOM for codes.
I did the blink thing for ABS on my bronco once, just jumpered two pins. Is it the same for the EEC-IV, and if so what are the pins to jump.
Wish this were a 96 or newer, I have a scan tool for those.
As I said, the link is dead in the technical question sticky, so I have to ask.
parts america has a obd1 checker for around $30. I have one just lent it out, but havent used it in a long time so dont remember all the particulars. I went to shop with a full scanner and they checked my system and said the computer was bad. They had a snap-on rig, they also pulled codes for the IAC and we ended up with a short someplace in the wiring system, took a couple of hours and many tech manuals and electrical manuals to finally find what the code was. Basically that is why my IAC is disconnected now we could not locate the short and I didnt want to tear the wire harness apart.
So find an Indy shop with the right equipment and have them run a scan for ya. Better than the code readers.
Your '91 still uses the EEC-IV system, so you can use the same setup. The quick, easy way to read the codes is go to AutoZone or some other auto parts store and they usually will read the codes for you for free.
Find the STI wire in the EEC test harness under the hood, ground it and turn the key to run, the codes should begin to flash on the check engine light. See fordfuelinjecion.com for pics, procedures, code defs, and sensor tests.
