Can anyone explain the different mufflers to me? I'm new to this type of thing and i would really like to know some facts on mufflers. For instance, the truck im purchasing has glass packs with a 2 1/2in exhaust, what are they exactly? And why do they look so different from normal mufflers or even Flowmasters? Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

A glass pack is a large tube with a smaller tube inside it with holes punched in it. Then they wrap the smaller tube with fiberglass. It is a straight through design. Flowmaster uses a rectangular welded case with V shaped baffels inside to direct sound waves and exhaust flow. The more baffels inside the quiter the muffler.

also, the holes in the glasspacks sort of have little pockets that baffle the sound a bit, but not much. they produce a deep, resonant sound. And, if you turn them around (they do have a front and back, contrary to popular belief) they in essence become the same as straight pipes. But then you run the threat of bogging up the baffles in it with substances in the exhaust gasses that they still catch even though backwards, which can hinder performance.
