330 interchangable with a 370?

Hi guys,

I have a 87' F60 with a bad 370 motor. I found a 74' F600 with a 330. Can I put the 330 in the 87'?

This would probably just be to get me through the winter ( I deliver coal)... I would either rebuild the 370 in my spare time or find the right diesel engine and trans to put in it over the summer...

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Austin

I believe the 330 is an FE/FT engine while the 370 is related to the 429,460 engines so I doubt the trans would bolt up to the 330 engine if you are reusing your transmission. If you could get the engine/trans, you could probably make it work with some fab for motor mounts & little things like that.

Ok,

I was aftaid of that, the 330 comes with a complete truck that is drivable... So the trans should be good, but not sure i want to modufy it because i dot think it will be in there for too long...

Would any 460 work? If I found a mid-80's f250 with a 460, there are plenty of those around...

Right, two different engine families here: FE/FT and 385 series. The 370 has a 4.05 bore and a 3.59 (429) crank.

Even though the 370/429 truck engines are the same engine family, there are enough differences between them and car/PU engines like the 460 to make a direct swap impossible, and to make a swap a pita.

Serving suggestion: Limp along with the 330 motored truck while you rebuild you existing 370.

Thanks for the replies... I think I'm gonna go with a new motor. Didn't want to spend the 4 grand, but the truck's not making money sitting here and I don't have time to mess around making the wrong motor fit...

Thanks,
Austin
