Radiator Issues

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone else has been having this problem with their rads. I drive a 99 Eddie Bauer. I've had the rad replaced twice as the mechanic, on the second replacement, found out that their is an issue where some rads will calcify and antifreeze will not flow through after. I seems to happen about after 6 months or so. I don't drive the truck everyday, usually just weekends. I haven't paid for the last replacement, as the mechanic just sends the rad back to the parts shop he gets me replacement from. But I don't want to starting having to pay for this as it's about 400 dollars worth of work every six months, never mind the fact I don't have the truck for a few days.

Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks,
B

Since the truck sits so much you need to use distilled water instead of tap water. With it sitting so long, the minerals in the water have time to bond to the aluminum. Distilled water doesn't have minerals, so there is nothing to bond to the aluminum. The entire cooling system needs to be drained and refilled with a new anti-freeze/distilled water 50/50 mix.
