Mechanical gauge installation question
I am in the process of installing a oil pressure and a water temp gauge in my 1996 F250 with a 351 and automatic trans. I am going to mount them in a universal two-gauge pod ( Universal Dual Gauge Console Dash Pod ) on the flat spot on top of the dash above the radio. I was conveniently relieved of my stereo recently at the wonderful commuter rail parking facility, so I won't have to worry about that being in the way
. Anyway, does anyone know the best location to drill the firewall or use of existing holes for the oil capillary and temp wire? I am using the Sunpro 2" gauges and have the copper capillary kit for the oil gauge. I am assuming the best scenario for the copper capillary is an installation with as few bends as possible (its 72" long). I have already measured, and will need a 3/4" hole for the temp probe, the oil line is a compression fitting so a small hole will be fine - I plan on putting rubber grommets/silicone for the holes. I am going to splice into the ashtray light for dimmable gauge lights. Thanks in advance. Joe.
