What does this pump do exactly??
In my quest to find out why my truck is so hard to cold start (see previous post) my buddy said the pump under the driver's door along the frame rail is a "lift assist pump" and is supposed to assist in keeping fuel pressure constant. Is this true? How and what does this pump actually do? Can I test it? I thought the pump was in the tank....

Sorry, my bad, I meant to say he stated is WAS a fuel pump, I was thinking while typing about how the oil is integral in operating the fuel injectors.
I thought the fuel pump was located in the gas (diesel) tank, no? If this pump gets "lazy" could that contribute to poor cold starting?
