Is there any transmission that will fit in my 96 F350 4x4 diesel other than the E4OD, I'm not real impressed with it and it's high dollar to rebuild or replace.

A C6 will, but it doesn't have overdrive. Your gas mileage will drop considerably. A ZF 5 speed will also work, but you will have to install a hydraulic clutch system and use a different pedal assembly. Either way, you're going to need different length driveshafts.
