hello guys
looking for my first ford project truck ( trail & mud slinger) need some help
what is the last year f-150's had solid axles or is their other years that are more popular to do up? 60s 70s early 80s... 250s / 350s

It depends on what you are planning to build. All 4x4 had solid axles up until 1979. some had a dana44 while others had the bigger dana60. After that, the F350 was the only ones that got solid axles up until they came out with the Super Duty 98/99? Then both the F250 and F350 got the solid axles. However, from 1980-1985.5/86(somewhere in there) all of the trucks(F350s included) had the less desirable TTB front end. If you are looking for an older truck and plan to use it for more than 50% offroad I would look at a mid-70s F250 highboy or a 78-79 F250/350. These will have either dana44HD axles or dana60 axles.

I had a 77 Ford F150...it was easy to work on and there are tons of parts out there for a reasonable price. I just sold the 77 and got a 2003 as I had too many cars (So I traded in 3 for the 1). Check the 73-79 forums, tons of help. For a few grand you can have a nice TOUGH mudslinging hog. F150 from that era had the Ford 9" rearend and the dana 44 up front. The 250s and 350 had dana 60s or 70s. I was able to lift the truck for $140 dollars. Majority of that was for front springs and bushings. I lifted the back for $9 for bolts by doing a reverse shackle flip. You can get a decent start for around $800 for a complete truck. The engine is easy to work on being a 351 or 400 (can find 360 or 390s too, or if you can locate an SCS you can get a 460.)

$6k for the trade though...so not too bad.
