I think we may go to the LA County Fair tomorrow. Haven't been in about 2-3 years. No WY hunt this year, so we can squeeze in the fair.

Need a printer, monitor or a keyboard? I have extras, just swing on by and pick 'em up.

Tomorrow or Sunday would be better, cuz I have to find them in this menagerie.

I'm close by...in Hacienda Heights, at the top of the hill, west of Colima, south of the power poles in the Monaco Crest tract.

I appreciate that offer Bill. But we are all set. The only thing the machine could use is a dose of memory. It's only got 512mb, and a gig would be better. But she doesn't do much on it anyway except email and pay bills. I'll probably just leave it alone.

Automobile Industry Shows

Anybody planning to go to one of the auto industry shows? I think it is in OC in October, and in LA in November.

We went to the LA show last year and was our first time. We'll probably want to do it again.

I haven't been to any of those before. Might be enjoyable. Couldn't bring the dog, I suppose.

I've been to every LA Auto Show since 1951 and to all the GM Motorama's from 1951 thru 1957 or so. Got in free till 1998.

Both these shows were held at the Pan-Pacific Auditorium at 3rd & Fairfax & Beverly Blvd. (east of the Farmers Market, CBS, and the old Gilmore Field) for many years.

When the LA Auto Show outgrew the old Pan-Pacific location it moved to the Convention Center.

Several years ago, some kids broke into the Pan-Pacific, set it on fire, it burned to the ground.

IMO, the LA Auto Show was never the same after it moved downtown.

That Convention Center is a cold, uninviting locale, parking is a b!tch, and all those damn levels and outbuildings aren't pleasant either.

The 1929 LA Auto Show was held in huge tents downtown (Figueroa and 25th Street). A fire erupted the night before the show opened, every car was lost.

They had some posters up last year of the LA Auto Show in something like the mid-50's I guess. Not sure. But it caught fire and burned down while the show was there. I think it must have been held outside, maybe under tents or something. I'm just going by the photo, and don't really know the details. The picture just showed the charred remains of a lot of cars.

Edit: it was 1929. Here is a link:

An LA junkyard I've been going to since 1967 bought all of the cars that were burned in the '29 fire.

They have lots of pics on the wall that they took when they were hauling them all away.

A one-off Auburn "Cabin Speedster" was the most valuable car lost. A wealthy collector had a copy made several years ago.

hey guys... so my alternator took a dive this morning...my battery light came on so i pulled out the voltometer was getting anywhere between .006 volts to overloading the meter across the battery...and most of the time it never got above about 9 volts. so that was no good and since my arm is moderatly-severly destroyed right now i took it to my old work to get it fixed. however on the way there i lost every electrical device in the truck one by one. first i lost the radio, then windows, then lights/turn signals/brake lights, then gauge cluster and odometer...yeah all my gauges just plunged and it looked like the truck was off...even my cig lighter didnt work...how the fuel pump remained working i have no idea and how the truck ran i have no idea. it was smashing into gear harder than anything and running sluggishly but i made it to the shop! no idea how...a higher force was pushing me i think! Sure enough the alternator was no good got it replaced for a few hundred bucks and bingo everything was better! my truck runs much better! thats the third major problem ive had in as many weeks...right after it got completely paid off it decides to tear more money out of me...sweet but at least it runs well and everything is good...for now...knock on wood

Good morning, Bill. You're here early on a Sunday.

Of course, I guess you already knew that.

Not really that unusual that I'm up and surfing. I don't often throw out howdyposts though.

Waiting for SWMBO to get polished up then we're off to Polly's for b'fast.
