2000 Explorer...

I have a chance to buy a wrecked 2000 Explorer with minor body damage that was bought by a man that wanted the back glass. I want to use the rolling chassis to put under an older truck but I am not using the Explorer engine and tranny. I am putting a 351W on it. I want to know if the front tortion bar suspension is tough enough or ca be beefed up enough to handle the weight of then351W.

I'd look to see if it came with a 5.0 or the 4.0. If it came with the bigger motor it might work for you.

It's a 4.0 and that is why I am concerned. So far as I know, there isn't a lot i can do to increase the weight capacity with tortion bars.

I wouldn't take on that project then, find something like maybe a 3/4 ton truck. That will have enough chasis for that heavier motor.

Got one, but the chassis is just too big and too much trouble to cut down on the width of bothe the frame and tracking width. It would stiill be easier to come up with bigger tortion bars if needed. I know the frame structure is heavy enough it's only the tortion bars I'm concerned about.
