Also a little article about the spring game.
CHEYENNE - Right after last Saturday's spring game, first-year University of Wyoming football coach Dave Christensen wasn't pleased that his team dropped so many passes.
After looking at the film, Christensen still wasn't pleased with the drops.
But he also liked a lot of what he saw.
"It probably wasn't as bad as I anticipated," Christensen said during Tuesday's Mountain West Conference coaches teleconference.
"I was still disappointed with the drops by some of our players. But we were playing with a lot of guys who are young and may not see the field next year. There were a lot of guys on our sidelines (out with injuries) who are going to be playing. I would anticipate us utilizing some of the young guys coming in with this year's (recruiting) class.
"It was a decent game. I think our kids competed well. I think they're understanding what we want to get done from a physical standpoint. There was some good hitting in the game. I think it was a productive spring game for us."
Christensen will release a post-spring depth chart today.
The best part about that, Christensen said, is that he will add 17 players to it who missed time this spring due to injury and illness.
Christensen added that all but one of those players will be ready for fall camp. The other, who Christensen didn't identify, will be held out of contact for a while due to a shoulder injury.
Christensen said senior Karsten Sween will be atop the depth chart at quarterback entering fall camp.
Sween was 55 of 90 for 537 yards with four touchdowns and an interception in three full scrimmages and one smaller one this spring.
However, Sween hasn't been named the starter for the season-opener Sept. 5 against Weber State. He will compete against junior Dax Crum, redshirt freshman Adam Barry and two newcomers - junior-college transfer Robert Benjamin and true freshman Austyn Carta-Samuels - in fall camp.
Barry will be No. 3 on the depth chart behind Sween and Crum heading into fall camp. Barry said he would be open to move to another position, if asked.
But right now, Christensen wants to keep Barry at quarterback.
"We're not about to make any moves right now," he said. "We will see what happens in the fall. I know with the toughness he displayed throughout spring that he could certainly help in a number of places."
