re: 85 headlight problem additional information.

I need to give you guys a little more info on exactly what this truck is doing.
Sometimes when I start the truck the lights won't come on until I play with every acc on the dash. Sometimes they come on right away like they are supposed to.
Sometimes the lights will just go out while I'm driving and I have to pull off the road and play with every acc on the dash to get them back on. Sometimes they come back on the first time I pull the switch.
There does seem to be a weird connection between the floor dimmer and the use of the high beams. But there are times when even with exclusive use of the lows that the system twinks and the lights go out. This is no fun unless the moon is out.
The floor dimmer switch is the only one I have replaced so far and my mechanic says he wants a lot more money than I'm willing to pay when I can do this myself. I just need the wiring diagram and not the whole manual as I do like the way my mechanic takes care of the rest of my truck. He just farms out the electrical work he gets and that always costs more. Please, somebody, I know your out there and I will pay for faxing charges if necessary.

re: 85 headlight problem additional information.

There are a couple other threads on here of similar year trucks having the same problem. Most of the recommendations have been to replace the headlight switch or to re work the whole circuit so that the headlights are actually controlled by relays.
