You guys must be sick of me by now, huh? I hope not. I wanted to know what you all thought of this.
300 I-6. Cat #1 is gutted, acts as a resonator. Cat #2 is a highflow, unknown brand.
I'm going to order a Flowmaster Super44, 3'' in, dual 2.5'' out. Exit in front of rear wheel.
Any thoughts? I'd read and read and read and it's between Flowmaster and Magnaflow. I've had the Super 40 series and I liked it. Droned, but it sounded like a V8. Had a nice rumble in the low end.
I listened to a 4.0L I6 on YouTube with the FMS44 and I really liked it. I don't like most 4.0L I6 exhaust set ups.
I'm wanting a quiet in-cab ride on the highway paired with a nice noticeable rumble, even if it's only in the low end. The glass pack I have is great, but it's noise more than anything. No tone. Not nearly the rumble the FMS40 provided.
Most all of you know more about these things than I do.
I think a 3"IN/Dual2.5"Out muffler is WAY too big for the 300 I6. Single 2.5"In/Dual2"Out is Plenty big.
Thanks for your reply!
If you're saying it's too big because of the volume of air passing through thus relieving backpressure and me losing low end torque, I'm not worried about that. I have a straight thru glass pack right now so I'll only be gaining backpressure. I'm looking for a deep tone with some rumble to it.
I'm more concerned with in-cab resonance and exterior sound quality.
I am fairly confident I'll have a low growl and rumble on the outside. I don't know what to expect from in-cab however. I'm hoping I won't have in-cab drone due to the placement of the tailpipes.
I installed a super 44 with all custom exhaust last year and it was LOUD inside the cab. At first I had the muffler near the back axle, then decided to try moving it forward to see if it had any effect. With it positioned right behind the cat... which is just below the rear of the cab with my system, the droning was gone and I got a nice subdued rumble at speed, and lots of bark when on it. I have a V8 with a mendrel bent 2.5" Y dumping into a high flow cat and 3" muffler.
I think you will be happy with the 44, but I agree on the pipe size it should be plenty for that 300.
I agree. Flowmaster makes a great sounding muffler. The only problem is the droning. Flowmasters don't carry sound. I talked to the man at Advanced and he says the same thing. He added tailpipes to get away from the drone and lost all sound. At this point I don't care about loud anymore. A 300 I6 sounds best mellow, not loud. That's what I'm shooting for.

That's what I'm worried about. I like to be able to cruise at highway speeds without a headache. The muffler should sit right after my cat, underneath my cab. My old flowmaster sat there too but didn't drone when I added pipe. It just made it quiet.
Thanks for your answers guys. I'm having a time trying to get Advanced to order it for me, but I *should* be able to have the muffler installed Mon or Tue. I really don't think you can go wrong with Flowmaster, but I never messed with the Super 44. Is there even any difference between the super 40 and super 44?
