Do I have the wrong Power Programmer?

Hello Everyone,

I posted a year ago about using a Hypertech PP III that I received with my used 2001 F350 (7.3L diesel). For whatever reason, I wasn't able to try it out back then and basically put it on a shelf and forgot about it.

Now I'm ready, but I noticed something that made me pause. Being the scaredy cat that I am (and given my history of screwing up anything that has the word "chip" or "computer" associated with it), I went online to the Hypertech site to see if there were instructions available with more detail than the pamphlet that came in the box.

The part # on the unit I received is #41012; however, the part # referenced on the Hypertech site for my type of truck is #41040. Based on what I saw, I think the unit I have is for regular gasoline engines. Yes?

So, is the programmer I have useless to me? What would happen if I plugged this in to my truck?

Thanks, guys. Once again, I look forward to your advise.

Melanie

Welcome back. Ditch it and get a DP from Jody and Diane.

Call Hypertech or one of the sponsors on this site to see if it is the correct one or not. I assume if you plug it in it will connect to the PCM and tell you it is not compatable before you aare able to download or upload anything. Call to make sure.

If it doesn't work throw it on ebay and get a custom chip from Tony Wildman at www.totaldieselperformance.com.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I wish I could just toss it and get a new one, but, with two kids in college cash is tight, so that's not an option.

I have contacted Hypertech via e-mail and am waiting for their response. I posted here first since I've always gotten such good info from you all.

I'll post the response from Hypertech when I get it FYI.

Quick google search, brings up that p/n to fit 2001 7.3s with any trans. However like you said, it doesnt seem to come up on hypertechs site. Id bet thats an older unit, that they no longer use, or they superceeded the part number, or something along those lines. But, it couldnt hurt to wait for the reply from hypertech.

EDIT: Also, if you hooked it to your truck, and tried to do anything, it should recognize your vin, and tell you that it cannot change any programming settings, if it is indeed wrong.

Ah, that makes sense rebelchevy02; I'll bet it is just an older model. I'm still waiting to hear from Hypertech. Hopefully tomorrow.
