Carb Replacement Problems

I replaced the carb on my 84 250 and while i was putting everything back together i noticed a yellowish bar that attached near the front return spring on the old carb. However, the new carb doesnt have an attachment for this bar. I followed it and it seems to end on the side of the transmission at a what looks like a switch. What is this mysterious bar and what does it do? Must is be attached?

Sounds to me like the auto tranny kickdown linkage.

The carb you installed is for a manual transmission vehicle. You need to find one for an auto trans.

Thanks for all the help, I found an adapter on the Edelbrock website that fixes the problem so I wont have any tranny problems.
